Dong Natat Forest Walks & Homestays

Program #1:

Nong Lom Lake in Savannakhet
“The Honey Trail to Nong Lom Lake .” (Ban Se Moung to Ban Tat)
1 day Trek in Dong Natat forest

Depart the Savannakhet Provincial Tourism Office at 8:00 Am by Tuk-tuk. First the  local Guide takes you to a salt mine, where ancient methods are still being used. Upon arrival at Dong NaTat forest, have a morning snack and learn about the natural life and beauty.

Later in the morning, start the trek around lovely Nong Lom Lake , learning about the villagers' relationships with the towering emerald forest. Enjoy a typical lunch, listening to the traditional legend of the lake. You can even help the guides to collect herbs to flavor your food.

After lunch, walk to Ban Tat village to explore and learn about village life. Meet the locals and join in. Here we will gain an insight into the spiritual heart of Savannakhet, Tat Ing Hang Stupa, where the peaceful Buddhist atmosphere will enchant you.

Next, we will continue our trek to Ban Phonsim, visiting Muang Kao, the ruined ancient city and the historic birthplace of the lowland Lao people of Savannakhet. Look out for the 400 year old Mango Trees or the old city walls, and imagine a distant time…

We will return to Savannakhet in the evening.

Program #2:

The remarkable Dong Na Tat Forest in Savannakhet

1 day Trek in Dong Natat forest Temples , Traditions and Trekking

At 8:00 A.M. leave Savannakhet Provincial Tourism Office by Tuk Tuk, traveling to meet the local guides at the ecotourism information center. After a quick briefing enter the remarkable Dong NaTat forest, where towering trees will keep you cool. Learn about the magic torch trees.

Walk around Nong Lom Lake learning how the local people use the many natural forest products available. Listen to the legend of the lake, while enjoying a tasty local lunch.

After lunch, set off to Ban Tat village where will experience village life, and discover the history and significance of Tat Ing Hang Stupa, the living heart of Savannakhet's cultural and spiritual identity.

Next, continue the trek to Ban Phonsim, visiting Moang Kao, the ruined ancient city and the historic birthplace of the lowland Lao people of Savannakhet. Look out for the 400 year old Mango Trees or the old city walls, and imagine a distant time…

Return to Savannakhet in the evening

“Homestay in the spiritual heart of Savannakhet” (Ban Semuong and over night in ban Tat)
2 day trek in Dong Natat forest

Join a traditional baci ceremony for good luck.

Day 1

After lunch, we walk to Ban Tat village. Explore and learn about village life. Here, the homestay families will meet the group. ,Learn about the spiritual heart of Savannakhet, Tat Ing Hang Stupa with its peaceful Buddhist atmosphere.

Later in the day join in  activities unique to this village. Try your hand at making a magic torch, or depending upon the season, help out with the field work.

[The evening will be an memorable cultural exchange. Join a traditional baci ceremony for good luck, safe travels and happiness. Learn to speak a few words of Lao and you're sure to make friends for life. Don't forget your old family photos to show your new family.

Day 2

Wake up to a new day by  joining in the Buddhist tradition of giving alms to monks in the morning. After breakfast, move on to Ban Phonsim village to discover more local life and wisdom.

Next stop, a visit Muang Kao, the ruined ancient city and the historic birthplace of the lowland Lao people of Savannakhet. The guides will help you to find the 400 year old Mango Trees or the old city walls, and imagine a distant time…

Our final destination is Nong Tao to enjoy a refreshing swim, and a great view…..

“Village Homestay and Turtle Lake ” (Start from BanTat and over night in ban Ponsim)
2 day trek in Dong Natat forest

Learn how Savannkhet villagers use the forest

Day 1

Set off to Phonsim village. En route there will be more opportunities to witness intriguing facets of forest life and local beliefs. Upon arrival, meet your homestay hosts, freshen up, and head out to explore the village.

Day 2

Today begins as you join your host family in the thousand year old tradition of giving offerings to the monks. Guaranteed to bring you luck. Journey on to Muang Kao, a ruined ancient city and the historic birthplace of the lowland Lao people of Savannakhet. Look out for the 400 year old Mango Trees or the old city walls, and imagine a distant time… before breakfast!

Next, we trek through the forest to turtle lake to eat breakfast while enjoying the pretty view on the water's edge. Finally, travel to Ban Tat Village to discover the ancient Tat Ing Hang Stupa, the atmospheric heart of Savannakhet.,
